What is DNS?
DNS stands for domain name system. If you are going to use a professional
web host, you must know your web host's domain name servers. You
will need to know the primary and secondary host name servers of
your web host. For Example, here are Low Cost Domain's primary and
secondary host name servers:
NS.LOWCOSTDOMAINS.COM
216.226.138.100
NS2.LOWCOSTDOMAINS.COM
216.226.138.101
The numbers that appear at the end are called an Internet Protocol
(IP). You do not need your web host's IP's in order to update your
DNS. You are only required to have the Primary and Secondary Name
Servers.
Why do I need DNS?
You must know your web host's domain name servers (DNS) in order
to point your domain name to your web page.
How do I find my web hosts DNS?
Contact your web host. You will not need your web host's IP's in
order to update your DNS. You are only required to have the primary
and secondary name servers. If you already have hosting elsewhere,
you will need to contact them for your Hostnames and IP's.
How do I Change my Name Servers? Primary? Secondary?
Contact your hosting service for their DNS servers. Then log into
Manage your
Domain and click "Manage Name Servers". Here you can update
your DNS servers. You do not need to replace the IP's of the DNS
servers; our software will do that automatically. Please note that
a DNS change takes 24-72 hours to propagate throughout the Internet.
Therefore it may be 72 hours until your website is viewable. Also,
you can click
here for the "How do I change myDNS" online tutorial.
Is changing my DNS free?
Yes! Changing your Domain Name Servers (DNS) is absolutely FREE!
Where do I enter the IP addresses?
You do not need your web host's IP's in order to update your DNS.
You only need the primary and secondary name servers. Our software
will automatically resolve the IP's for you.
I deleted my Name Servers, now what do I do?
You need to login into "Manage
Your Domain". Under "Manage Name Servers" there is a field called
"Add Additional Secondary Name Servers". You need to first add the
Primary Name Server, which is:
NS.LOWCOSTDOMAINS.COM
Then add the secondary name server:
NS2.LOWCOSTDOMAINS.COM
DNS changes take 24-72 hours to take effect. Also, you can click
here for the "My nameserver fields are missing, how do
I get them back" online tutorial.
How long does it take for DNS changes to take effect?
Once your Domain Name Servers (DNS) are updated, it will take up
24 - 72 hours to propagate throughout the Internet.
